Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) — Release Date, Cast & Everything We Know

It has been four years since Peter Parker asked the world to forget him, and now the bill has come due. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fourth solo outing for Tom Holland’s web-slinger, and it arrives as one of the most anticipated superhero films of 2026. Here is everything confirmed so far, from the release date and cast list to the plot, trailers, and the comic book storyline that gave the movie its name.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Release Date

Sony has locked in July 31, 2026 as the US theatrical release date (UK audiences get an early look on July 29, 2026). The film lands two months after Avengers: Doomsday and roughly two weeks after Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, giving Sony a clear run at the box office through the last weekend of the month.

The date was not always set in stone. The studio originally eyed an earlier slot, but pushed the film back a week to put some distance between it and The Odyssey, since Tom Holland stars in both. Holland actually asked Sony to delay the start of production by six months so he could finish filming The Odyssey first, a request the studio granted.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Cast

The film brings back nearly every major face from the Home trilogy, along with a handful of new additions who have kept fans guessing for over a year.

  • Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man
  • Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones
  • Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds
  • Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher
  • Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Hulk
  • Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role that has fueled months of fan theories
  • Tramell Tillman as Bill Metzger
  • Michael Mando as Mac Gargan / Scorpion

Sadie Sink joined the cast without an audition, largely on the strength of her earlier work with director Destin Daniel Cretton. Sony has kept her character under wraps on purpose, and Sink herself has said fans invent a new theory about her role practically every week.

Jon Bernthal’s Punisher returns fresh off his own Disney+ special, and producer Kevin Feige has said the character will carry a different tone in this film to fit its PG-13 rating. Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner shows up wearing a device built to keep the Hulk suppressed, which becomes a plot point once Peter starts noticing strange changes in his own body.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Plot

Here is the official synopsis Sony has released for the film:

Four years have gone by since the events of No Way Home. Peter now lives entirely on his own, having chosen to erase himself from the lives and memories of everyone he loves. He fights crime full-time as Spider-Man in a New York that no longer knows who he is, and the strain of that double life sets off an unexpected physical change that puts his very existence at risk, right as a strange new wave of crime introduces one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.

In plain terms, Peter is isolated, running himself ragged as an unrecognized hero, and his powers appear to be evolving into something new and possibly uncontrollable. Early trailers show hints of organic web-shooters and unsettling changes to his eyes, which has sent fans digging through old Spider-Man comics for clues.

Where the Title Comes From

The movie borrows its name from a well-known two-part Spider-Man comic arc: “One More Day” and “Brand New Day,” first published in 2007 and 2008. In the comics, Peter makes a devastating bargain with the demon Mephisto to save a dying Aunt May, and the price is the erasure of his marriage to Mary Jane Watson. “Brand New Day” then resets Peter’s world entirely: his secret identity is restored, his relationship with MJ ends on rocky terms, and Aunt May starts volunteering at a homeless shelter.

The film does not appear to be a direct comic adaptation, but the emotional echo is clear. No Way Home already erased Peter’s identity from everyone he loves, and Brand New Day picks up in the wreckage of that choice, much like the comic version of Peter had to rebuild his life from nothing.

Trailers and First Look

The first official trailer dropped on March 18, 2026, and Sony worked with creators around the world to roll out short clips ahead of the full reveal. A second trailer followed on June 22, giving fans a longer look at the new suit design, which several outlets noted looks closer to the comic books than any of Holland’s earlier costumes, with some comparing it to the suits worn by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in their own films.

CinemaCon 2026 brought an additional batch of first-look images and teaser posters, along with confirmation from director Destin Daniel Cretton that the film marks a genuine new chapter for the character while staying true to what audiences already love about him.

Director and Behind the Scenes

Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, directs from a script credited to Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, and Justin Kuritzkes. Filming began in August 2025 in Glasgow, Scotland, with the production using real city streets rather than leaning on soundstages, a shift Holland credited to Cretton’s more hands-on filmmaking style.

Production was briefly paused after Holland suffered a concussion on set, though filming resumed within the week and wrapped without further incident. Holland finished shooting the film at age 29, closing out a franchise he first joined as a teenager back in 2016.

What This Means for the MCU

Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives as the 38th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fifth entry in Phase Six. Producer Amy Pascal has said the film is meant to kick off an entirely new trilogy for Peter Parker, separate from the Home trilogy that closed with No Way Home. Whether that means the story steps away from the wider Multiverse Saga, or still ties into Avengers: Doomsday and the eventual Avengers: Secret Wars, remains to be seen.
